ON OBSERVATION

Three series of paintings made during a period in which the presence of surveillance cameras in the UK increased significantly. Responding to this shift in the observation and representation of public spaces, these oil and acrylic paintings repeat the visual characteristics of early surveillance camera images, such as pixellation and blurred edges.

Paintings made as part of DIY, an exhibition in an industrial warehouse in Exeter organised by Surface Arts. These paintings were made using photographs taken at weekly intervals over the preparation and exhibition time period of DIY, changing the space by temporarily through this process of enacted observation.
